Closer than Gangtok, Pelling or Ravangla. This unique Pilgrim Centre has a main temple of 108 feet height on which is based the 87 feet high statue of Lord Shiva on the sitting posture at the Solophok Hill. Apart from Shiva statue, this Pilgrim Centre also has replicas of the twelve Jyotirlingas, to offer one platform for Shiva devotees.Lord Shiva incarnated as Kirateshwar in Indrakeel (Present Sikkim). Therefore, in this incarnation he is locally worshipped by the people of Sikkim as Lord Kirateshwar. A statue of 16 1/2 feet height of Lord Kirateshwar is also installed in the complex.In order to attain Moksha, the Hindu belief is to perform pilgrimage to all the existing four Dhams. Thereby, replicas of these four Dhams, namely Badrinath, Jaganath and Dwarka dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Rameshwar, dedicated to Lord Shiva is also constructed.The pilgrim centre is constructed on top of the Solophok Hill in South Sikkim which is about 5 kilometers from Namchi town over an area of 28.958 Ha of land. The built up complex covers an area of approximately 7 acres and is accessible by a smooth road.The profile of the hill suggested that the main Shiva complex with the main statue be placed at the highest commanding point in the west direction and facing east. The entire complex is divided into four main elements, namely (1) Shiva Statue with 12 Jyotirlingas, (2) Four Dhams, (3) Sai Baba Temple and (4) Kirateshwar statue besides Nandi bull, Sai dwar, Sai Temple, Kiratdwar, Kirateshwar Statue, Shiv Dwar.This pilgrimage centre has been dedicated and designed to place Sikkim in the very conscience, heart and minds of the citizens of India and beyond. Tarey Bhir is an amazing point of attraction for people who adore natural thrill. It is situated on a beautiful locale near a rural hamlet called Sadam, which is about 18 km away from Namchi. The word ‘Bhir’ means cliff in the local Nepali language, the length is around 10,000 feet with a breathtaking viewpoint at the edge from where people can get spectacular views of the river valleys below, the lush green forest coverage, panoramic view of the confluence of the two rivers of Sikkim Teesta and Rangit.Tarey Bhir also presents a comprehensive view of the tea garden sprawled on a sloppy hill of Peshok with a train of houses all aligned along the road to Darjeeling.
The two storied building is painted in golden colour that makes it difficult to ignore in broad daylight. It is a modern marvel with a spacious first floor that can accommodate many devotees at once. It also has a marble statue of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba and paintings of Lord Vishnu.The paintings are ten in number depicting the ten different reincarnations of the Hindu God. The temple also has a beautiful garden within its boundaries from where one could get a good view of Mt. Kangchenjunga. It is a must visit for people from all across the world. On a trip to Namchi one should make a trip to this sacred place.
Samdruptse Hill: the 'WISH FULFILLING HILL' is just 5 km away from Namchi, situated at an altitude of 2134 m (7000 ft). This epic hill is ornamented with a giant statue of the Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche); the patron saint of Sikkim who has been showering its blessings since more than 1,200 years. It is a 45 m tall statue, overlooking the whole city, and is gilded with gold that glitters when the sunlight falls over it. The hill offers the vista of the magnificent Mt. Kangchenjunga amongst the richly forested hills under the blue painted sky. It is believed that the hill is a dormant volcano and only prayers can hold it from erupting, that is why the local monks offer their reverence and devotion to it. The repository within the premises of the statue, has a profound collection of historical photographs of Sikkim also including the fading photos of Mahatma Gandhi, come as a delight for the history buffs. The statue is an incredible triumph of engineering, that took around seven years for its construction under the sponsorship of the Sikkim State Government. The foundation stone for the statue was laid by Dalai Lama in the year 1997.
About five km away, it is at height of around 5000 feet and offers beautiful scenic views of Mt. Kanchanzonga (the third highest peak in the world) and the mountain ranges.
The Central Park as the name suggest is a central location located at the heart of Namchi city. However, this not a large parkland area.This is the place where you can have a pleasant experience, relax and have a cup of tea/coffee. The beautiful view of market and crowd to enjoy city life of Himalayas.
Ngadak Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries of Namchi which was built by Tensung Namgyal, during the reign of Chogyal Gyurmed Namgyal regime. Belonging to as early as the 17th century, the word Ngadak actually means promise. Hence it is believed that anyone coming here would make a promise to come back again. This monastery was constructed as a palace to Her Highness Pendi Ongmu.
The Temi Tea Garden in Temi, established in 1969 by the Government of Sikkim, is located in South Sikkim. It is the only tea garden in Sikkim and considered one of the best in India and in the world. Top quality tea is produced, which is in demand in the international market. The garden is laid over a gradually sloping hill. The tea produced in this garden is also partly marketed under the trade name "Temi Tea". This is also a very romantic place for Honeymoon goers.
The floral composition of the tea estate consists of broad leaf vegetation comprising Alnus Nepalensis (Utis), Castanopsis (Kattus), Macaranga (malata), Engelhardia Spicata (Mahua), Magnolia Champaca, Toona Ciliata (Tooni), Machilus (Kawla), Symplocos (Kharane) and Cinnamomum (Sinkoli). The estate's surroundings and approach road have also been made more scenic by planting Japanese Cedar (Dhupi) and Prunes (Cherry).
This is one of the greatest attractions in Namchi and should not be missed. You can also get amazing views of Kanchenjunga snow peaks and the valleys. A fifteen-minute ride on this ski-resort style mini-gondola ride whisks you down from the Rock Garden to the Heart of Namchi town.
